USER'S GUIDE-Interface description |
Introduction |
When you start
the application, the following screen will appear:

The screen is composed of four different areas: the menu
bar, the toolbar, the tabbed pages,
and the lower bar.
|
| Menu bar |
The menu bar has three
items: File, Data, and Help.
The File menu contains only the item Quit.
You may also quit the application by clicking the upper right corner
of the window. The Data menu contains the items Reset
and Submit. The Help menu allows access to on-line
help (the document you are currently reading). All the functions except
Quit are also available on the toolbar just beneath the menu bar.
See below for an explanation of the buttons.
|
| Tool bar |
 |
Opens the window
to submit a query. This button is used after having completed
a query by filling in the appropriate sections on the tabbed
pages. |
 |
Deselects all
of the current search criteria and resets the application to
its initial setting, that is, as it was when the application
was opened. |
 |
Starts the on-line help (this file). |
|
| Tabbed pages |
The main window of
the application is made up of seven different tabbed pages: Spatial
references, Temporal references, Depths,
Missions, Areas, Data types,
and Keywords. You may add information to each of
these pages to define what data you want to retrieve. The information
provided on each page is combined following logical rules (the Boolean
operators "AND" or "OR") so that as the query
is built it becomes more and more refined. The different lines of
information on a given page are related to each other by "OR";
the information from the different pages are combined together with
"AND." If none of the fields are filled out (the initial
condition), all the data files in the system are selected. This situation
is not allowed, however; query returns are limited to 500 files.
|
| Lower bar |
| The lower bar shows
the user how many files fulfill the current query specifications.
Therefore, with no criteria specified, as is the case when the application
is started, the number seen in the lower right corner represents the
number of files archived in the system. You will see that the number
decreases as you refine your query. |
